I was nearly positive that I had already posted about one MARKET in Edmonds. It’s one of my favorite restaurants, and it happens to be in the same ownership group (Feedme Hospitality) as Salt & Iron, Fire & the Feast, and Bar Dojo (among others). Leaving no stone unturned, I took advantage of sunny day in July to stop by MARKET for their new Lobster Fries. Fish tacos and fish and chips are my usual orders, but what better way to celebrate National French Fry Day than going a bit luxury with the dish?

To be clear, I still ordered the fish tacos. They’re tremendous, and it seemed almost criminal to leave without them. The Lobster Fries caught my eye because 1) they’re a French Fry dish, and 2) I’ve never seen fries covered in fried lobster before. It reminds me of one of my first blog posts where I tried Jerk Fish Poutine at Red Fish Blue Fish in Victoria, British Columbia. This was a bit different because the lobster was chunked into nuggets and fried.

MARKET did a great job on the presentation. The long straight fries provided a visual contrast with the nuggets of fried lobster, and then there was color contrast with the pickled jalapenos and red onions. Everything was complimented by an orange tinged sweet chili aioli and a sprinkle of chives. The flavors were bright, and rich, and zippy. Everything was at its best when it was fresh out of the kitchen when the lobster was the perfect combination of crispy on the outside and buttery on the inside. After the dish tempered on the patio table it became a bit chewy and starchy, but that’s to be expected. If you’re going to get it, be prepared to eat it with some urgency. Given how delicious it was, that shouldn’t be a problem.

The fries themselves were fine. Not amazing, but good enough. I wouldn’t have minded another 30 seconds in the fryer to really set up the crust. They use a fairly thick fry (10mm) which means that it’ll have a tendency to get a touch starchy if it’s underdone. A normal person would think they were great, but I’ve become too picky after doing this for so long. All around this was one of my favorite French fry dishes in a while, and I’m looking forward to a future review of their Chowder Fries soon. Happy National French Fry Day!
