Sometime around Valentine’s Day 2025, Dr Pepper released a new Blackberry flavor to their line-up of sodas. The Blackberry flavor is a compliment to the Dr Pepper base, so you could argue that this is a 24th flavor (one more than their usual 23). Unless they dropped one of the other flavors…what a mystery.

When I heard rumors of the new flavor I reached out to Dr Pepper and asked for confirmation and if they’d like to spotlight anything for them. As a reminder, this blog and video content are just a hobby, so I don’t mind receiving samples from companies in exchange for my honest opinions. I have some integrity, and I’d like to say that I’m not overly influenced by the gesture. However, Dr Pepper surprised me with a really interesting media kit that included 4 cans of the new soda (2 regular, 2 zero sugar), and then also some adorable charm pendants from the Pura Vida jewelry company. Everything was decorated for Valentine’s Day which would have been perfect if I had received the package 3 weeks earlier.

I love blackberries, and as a native Seattleite I’m very familiar with them. We pick blackberries every August because they grow like crazy in the Northwest. Most of what I see are the invasive Himalayan variety that produce big vines, big berries, and grow uncontrollably. While they’re a nuisance, they also make an excellent pie. Dr Pepper did a good job of incorporating that flavor into this soda, and unlike some other reviews that I’ve seen, I don’t think they went too far. I’d compare it with Cherry Coke in terms of the balance between the base soda and the new flavor, but maybe a little heavier on the blackberry. I found it to be very sweet, crisp, and pleasant. My concern was that it would taste medicinal. Like cough syrup. That’s not the case at all, and I was pleasantly surprised.

So, is Dr Pepper Blackberry good? Yeah, it’s good. Not as good as eating a handful of blackberries, but it’s an enjoyable variation of the Dr Pepper family and I wouldn’t mind drinking it again. I did enjoy the regular version more than the zero sugar, but that’s a clear personal preference.
