It’s an established fact that I love the Feedme Hospitality Group in the Edmonds area, but I had not been able to visit their Seattle location in the Seattle Art Museum building until recently. The Edmonds outpost of MARKET has amazing food (including these Lobster Fries), and the Seattle MARKET location has special menu items that I was excited to try. I settled on their burger and the curry fries for the inaugural trip.

The typo above is directly from their website, so don’t attack me for it. I forgave them, and you should too.

This was the first time I’ve every seen fries covered in Japanese curry on a menu. Japanese curry is essentially a hearty mild gravy that looks a bit like baby food. I’ve always had it with traditional stew vegetables, so the potatoes, carrots, and onion made a lot of sense. The basil and sesame seeds added some great finishing flavors but also dressed up the dish quite a bit. It was a sexy plate of fries. What this reminded me of more than anything else was a rich stew with a lot of potatoes. The fact that it was served over perfectly fried French fries amplified the potato flavor by 10X compared to a normal stew, but you should expect to eat it with a fork. The fries are thick (didn’t have my calipers, easily 3/8’s of an inch), and they had a beautiful crust that help up to the curry for a few minutes before succumbing to the steam. You should also expect to burn the crap out of the roof of your mouth because it doesn’t look anywhere near as blazing hot as it is when they serve it.

I’m not going to say that the fries alone would be a good meal, but they’d make a reasonable tide-you-over sort of snack. I also ordered their burger which was good, but not remarkable. They call it a smash burger, but it didn’t look very smashed nor did it have the lacy edges that I equate with “smashed” burgers. It was simple, and I would have preferred a more pickled pickle. The bun was fantastic, though. My ideal burger would have been one patty, American cheese, double the onions, stronger pickles, and a punchy burger sauce. If you want to stop by I’m going to recommend the fish tacos, lobster/crab roll, fish and chips, or the shrimp katsu curry (with the same Japanese curry from the fries).

The location itself was beautiful and one of the best food options near Pike Place Market, especially for a quick service. They made the space under the Seattle Art Museum very cozy and modern. I’m lucky to have access to the Edmonds location, but I know that I’ll be stopping here again, especially if I’m visiting the art museum for an exhibit.
