I saw this nonsense on social media. Pretty sure it started on TikTok, but that’s not something I follow. So, it must have been a repeat through Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts. Either way, people have been ordering Dr Pepper with pickles from places like Sonic and it’s getting a lot of attention. I’m duty bound to investigate and report on my findings.

Here’s the recipe in case anyone needs it. Take a can of Dr Pepper, pour it out over ice, then place three dill pickle chips on the top as a garnish. It sounds weird, it looks weird, but it doesn’t taste nearly as weird as you’d think. Dr Pepper is a pretty complex soda with lots of warm spice notes. Adding dill pickle to the mix is fairly complimentary because dill plays well with other bold spices, not to mention the tang of vinegar…very similar to a shrub syrup. If you like a little bit of a sour zip in your drinks, then you might like this. I don’t mind drinking straight pickle juice in small quantities (when it’s high quality and offered to me), so this honestly wasn’t a shocking move.

Will I keep doing this? Probably not, unless I really need attention. This would be the “everybody look at me” move at a corporate lunch or family reunion. However, if I find myself at a Sonic and need to shake things up, then I’ll consider this another arrow in the quiver.

If you liked this post, you might hate my other post about Dr Pepper with peperoncini. I call it Dr Peperoncini.
