I recently found myself at Rachel’s Ginger Beer. Again. One could make the case that I live there, but that’s beside the point. I’ve had almost all the varieties of Rachel’s Ginger Beer currently available and I needed to post a review of their Passionfruit X Vanilla.

I like the color of this variety quite a bit. It’s a thick, vibrant yellow. Passionfruit always reminds me of the fresh juices I drank while living in Central America so there’s a bit of nostalgia in this drink for me as well. However, in Honduras you’d usually see the passionfruit seeds left in the juice. Rachel’s wisely removes them, but adds a bit of vanilla to mellow the natural tartness of the juice. My palate might be fried, but I couldn’t taste much vanilla.

Even with20160819_115418out a strong vanilla presence, I really enjoyed this ginger beer. Once again, Rachel’s does a great job balancing a warm ginger burn with a punchy acid fruit blend (passionfruit and lemon juice in this case) for a refreshing and conversational drink. Sometimes passionfruit can be a bit too tart, but I thought this drink was just about right. The carbonation is a bit light (this happens with a lot of Rachel’s products), but there’s enough to add a bit of character and sparkle to the juice. I give it an 8 out of 10, but the numbers are getting pretty arbitrary. They’re all delicious, I just like some of them a little bit more than others.
