The viral videos for “Fluffy Coke” are flawed, but I fixed the biggest problem and made it actually taste good. Fluffy sodas combine marshmallow fluff and the soda of your choice. They all suck because the marshmallow fluff removes the carbonation from the soda and not enough of the fluff (and marshmallow flavor) incorporate into the drink. My recipe for Fluffy Coke overcomes that issue and looks 10X more majestic.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Marshmallows (at least 10)
  • Marshmallow Fluff
  • Jet-Puffed Bits
  • 1 can Coca-Cola (or whatever soda you prefer. Dr Pepper and root beer also work well)
  • Vanilla extract (optional)

Directions

  1. Make simple syrup by adding 1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil while stirring. Stop when sugar is fully dissolved.
  2. Reduce heat to medium, add marshmallows and stir constantly until dissolved. For bonus points you can toast your marshmallows to get that roasted marshmallow flavor. This was my preference. Use a pan/pot with tall enough sides that the marshmallows have room to rise as they dissolve. They might not fully dissolve, but you can quit whenever you think enough has incorporated into the syrup.
  3. Carefully strain the simple syrup through a mesh filter into a glass jar. Let cool, and add about a tsp of vanilla extract. Or more. Whatever you want.
  4. Decorate the outside of a glass with Marshmallow Fluff. Only decorate the top so that you still have somewhere to grab the glass.
  5. Roll the marshmallow fluff’d glass in the Jet-Puffed Bits. As many as you want. The fluff will drip a bit and look incredibly cool.
  6. Fill the glass with ice and the soda of your choice. Add between 2-3 tablespoons of your simple syrup.
  7. ENJOY!

I liked this. Toasted marshmallow is a really pleasant complimentary flavor to the bitter/acidic Coca-Cola. I also toasted some marshmallows on a metal straw which enhanced the aroma of toasted marshmallow as I took sips of the drink. While the marshmallow fluff and bits had zero involvement in the flavor of the drink, they were fun to eat off the outside of the glass.

If you don’t want to work this hard, you could always just buy some marshmallow syrup from Torani or whatever other coffee syrup provider you trust. Also, there’s a tutorial video below.
