Like an OREO cookie, the collaboration between OREO and Coca-Cola has two sides. The first to launch was the Coca-Cola OREO Zero Sugar soda (reviewed here). The second is the OREO Coca-Cola Sandwich Cookie, a limited edition OREO that is flavored with…you guessed it…Coca-Cola. When you dig into the details you find that one wafer of the distinctive red and black cookie is traditional OREO. The red cookie is actually a Golden OREO that’s dyed red and stamped with 3 different Coca-Cola designs. So, what makes this cookie special is a “Coke float flavor creme with popping candy”. Here’s a look at the ingredients:

It’s really funny how different the ingredients are from the Coca-Cola OREO Sugar Free soda. For starters, the soda had no sugar (obviously). That’s the first ingredient in the cookies. It’s also the 7th and 8th ingredient, and then Coca-Cola syrup is the 11th ingredient (after salt?????). This was a shock to me because when I opened the bag I was almost knocked off my feet by how strong the cola smell was. It was intense, and I’m even more surprised after learning that the only the creme had Coca-Cola flavor. Maybe they pump Coke-perfumed air into the packages? Enough about how it smells, let’s talk about how it tastes.

There’s a clear and distinct cola flavor, and it’s complimented by the traditional signature cocoa flavor of the OREO cookies. The cola flavor tastes less “Coke” and more “Cola Gummy” to me, and that’s totally fine. I love cola gummies. I might be imagining this, but the cinnamon notes from the cola came through much more pronounced than I’ve ever noticed when drinking Coca-Cola by itself. That also wasn’t unwelcome.

Not to be a downer, but there was one significant miss with this cookie. It was clearly advertised as a “fizzy cookie” with popping candy. Maybe my box was a dud, but there was no fizz whatsoever. I know that OREO can pull this off because they’ve done it with their Independence Day themed fireworks editions. The popping candy effect really would have added some charm to this collaboration, so it ultimately feels unfinished.

After some deep deep reflection, I’ve decided that the cookie version of the collaboration is the most successful. It’s good. Maybe not as good as some other limited edition OREO cookies (chocolate peanut butter pie, maple creme, pistachio), but it was a creative effort by the OREO team and shows a lot of potential for future corporate flings.
You can purchase your own on Amazon by following this link. I might get some sort of kick-back if you purchase it, but I promise I’ll put it to good use. Oh, one more thing. I put the OREO Coca-Cola Sandwich Cookies in a glass of the Coca-Cola OREO Zero Sugar as a gag, but it wasn’t bad! You certainly don’t want to dip these OREOs in milk, so dipping them in the OREO flavored Coke sort of makes sense. You can watch my video review below.
we were so excited to try these, but they are TERRIBLE. The popping candy filling has barely any fizz, but the main issue is that they TASTE TERRIBLE. Don’t waste your money or time searching for them; they are awful.
