I have a lot of respect for the Jones Soda Company, and I also thought that I enjoyed Pumpkin Pie, but after the past week I’m doubting one of those two foundations of my life. Objectively, I know that Jones Soda can do no wrong, so my problem must be with pumpkin pie.
I’m tired of it. I eat it once a year, but that’s starting to feel like too much. Last week I tried a pumpkin pie soda from Rocket Fizz. It was okay, but heavy on the clove. This past Thursday was Thanksgiving so I had real pumpkin pie. It was also okay. Now it’s the Saturday after and I’m having Pumpkin Pie Jones Soda and I couldn’t possibly want pumpkin pie any less.
The soda is by all rights a success. The pumpkin body is bold and pronounced, the spices provide an assertive finish without overpowering the rest of the beverage. The 12 ounce bottle has 29 grams of sugar (not bad), a hip photo on the label, and words of wisdom underneath the cap. My soda let me know that “You are never bitter, deceptive, or petty.” Thanks Pumpkin Pie Soda.
Even with that obvious bit of manipulation via flattery, I can only give this a 6 out of 10. I can’t drink much of it, but I can appreciate that it’s a quality beverage that’s appropriate for the month. The Junior Tasters felt about the same. Check out their video here:
