All hot dogs are not created equal, and before you commit your calories to cheap meats you should consider the higher-end alternatives. One newish entrant in the tube steak market is a brand called “Gleezy” and their double-smoked brisket dogs.

Gleezy has focused their marketing on America’s golf demographic, but these glizzies should have wide-spread appeal. I found them on sale in my local Target for $7.99 for the 4 pack (usually $9.99). That’s pretty expensive for a grocery store hot dog, but at 1/5 of a pound per dog they’re a bit girthier than most of what you’ll find on the shelf. But are they worth the premium?

In my opinion, yes! They were fantastic. The bigger dog really filled up the bun and created a perfect bread to meat ratio for me. I grilled my dogs and they crisped up beautifully. The dogs were juicy with a really pronounced smoke and garlic flavor. Gleezy’s packaging says that these are all-beef dogs with brisket, and while I can’t speak to the amount of brisket compared to other cuts, I can tell you that they taste decidedly beefy. They’re good, and they might be the best skinless dogs I’ve ever had.

I served mine with cream cheese, mustard, caramelized onions, and jalapeños. They’d be great with whatever toppings you prefer. I have no connection or sponsorship from this company but hey…Gleezy, my inbox is open! To find Gleezy hot dogs near you, check their website.
If you’re wondering why hot dogs are sometimes called “glizzies”, the best I could figure out was that people started calling Glock handguns “glizzies” back when rappers added “izzy” or “izzle” to the end of words. Glock’s elongated magazines were kind of hot dog shaped, so then people started calling hot dogs glizzies. It’s ridiculous.
